Samples, MOQ & Development
Samples, MOQ & development
Use the sample to close decisions before bulk.
A sample is valuable when it answers defined questions about material, fit, construction, colour, branding and presentation—not when it is treated as a miniature bulk order.
Sample types
Match the sample to the decision.
Reference sample
An available item used to review a general material, construction or quality direction.
Development sample
A custom prototype used to evaluate the proposed specification and identify revisions.
Fit / size-set sample
A sample focused on measurements, movement, grading and consistency across selected sizes.
Pre-production sample
The final approved reference for bulk material, construction, artwork, labels and presentation.
How MOQ is formed
The largest minimum usually sets the commercial floor.
For many apparel products, a typical starting point is approximately 100 pieces per style and colour. The final MOQ may instead be driven by fabric knitting or dyeing, print setup, custom trims, moulds, packaging or component supplier minimums.
Accessory products are quoted by the selected construction and decoration route. Combining colours or designs does not always reduce a material or component minimum.
Typical timing logic
The clock starts when inputs are complete.
Feasibility questions and sample route, subject to product complexity.
Available materials move faster; custom colour, print, mould or component development adds time.
Counted after required materials, measurements and artwork are confirmed.
Clear consolidated comments help avoid unnecessary rounds.
Scheduled after pre-production approval, material availability and order conditions.
All timing above is indicative and does not constitute a guaranteed delivery date.
Sample feedback
Make every comment measurable.
- Mark comments by location with photos or annotated artwork
- State the required measurement and tolerance, not only “bigger” or “smaller”
- Separate fit, construction, material, colour and artwork comments
- Consolidate feedback from all decision-makers into one document
- Confirm which version becomes the approved bulk reference
